Albany Set For Powerful Winter Storm, Travel Chaos Expected - Travel And Tour World
Lake effect snow and snow squalls are poised to impact Eastern New York, bringing dangerous travel conditions beginning Monday. A Winter Storm Watch has been announced by the National Weather Service (NWS) for several areas, including Herkimer County.
The NWS forecasts intermittent snow showers and localized snow squalls on Monday afternoon and evening. Regions stretching from Albany to the north and west may encounter limited visibility and slick roadways, particularly during the evening rush hour. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant, anticipate potential delays, and drive with care.
The most intense impacts from lake effect snow are expected Monday afternoon as the storm strengthens. Snowfall is forecasted to continue through Wednesday morning, with some areas potentially receiving several inches. Northern Herkimer County is projected to experience the highest snowfall, with totals likely reaching 2 to 3 inches.
Snow bands could also stretch into Hamilton and central Herkimer Counties, though exact accumulation locations remain uncertain. These conditions may lead to travel challenges, especially along major highways. A Winter Storm Watch for heavy snow will begin Monday at 4 p.m. and remain in effect until 1 p.m. Wednesday.
Residents are encouraged to stay updated through the National Weather Service (NWS) and adjust plans accordingly. Avoiding non-essential travel and preparing emergency supplies are advised.
For ongoing updates, follow the NWS Albany office and stay aware of any changes to the storm forecast.
