Agarkar To Meet Gambhir, Rohit For AUS Tour Review; Kohli’s Form, Ashwin’s Retirement On Agenda: Report - News18

Ajit Agarkar, Chairman of the Senior Men’s Selection Committee for the Indian Cricket Team, is reportedly set to meet with Indian captain Rohit Sharma and Head Coach Gautam Gambhir to review the team’s disappointing tour of Australia. The team finished with a 1-3 defeat to their rivals in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

According to the Hindustan Times, Agarkar is now in Vadodara to attend the quarterfinal games of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, which begins on Thursday. He will meet with the remaining members of the Selection Committee. Following that, he will sit down with Gambhir and Rohit to extensively assess India’s performance Down Under.

In addition, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will convene a Special General Meeting (SGM) in Mumbai on Sunday, during which Devajit Saikia will take over as BCCI secretary. According to the report, many meetings would be held to examine a variety of problems, including India’s recent run of dismal results in the longest format.

India’s recent record indicates a significant drop. Following the 2-0 home win over Bangladesh, Rohit Sharma’s side suffered six losses in eight games, including a 0-3 home loss to New Zealand and an away series defeat to Australia. The selectors are also going to look at India’s senior pair, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who have had dismal form with the bat of late.

During the Australian tour, the two-time WTC finalists faced several setbacks. According to the article, the selectors would review R Ashwin’s retirement mid-tour, claims of division within the dressing room, Rohit’s lack of runs, which caused the skipper to miss the last Test, and Kohli’s lean patch.

After their series defeat to Australia, India’s chances of making it to a third consecutive WTC final were put to rest. Questions were asked of India’s senior starts who failed to deliver for quite some time and it remains to be seen if there would be any harsh calls being taken by the selectors.

With an ageing squad, it remains to be seen who are the players that would be propped up to take more responsibility within the Indian team should the era of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli come to an end at some point in the future.
