Norwegian Cruise Line christens its newest vessel ‘Luna’, expands Caribbean sailings

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has officially christened Norwegian Luna, the latest addition to its fleet, marking a key milestone in the company’s expansion in the Caribbean cruise market. The ceremony took place at PortMiami, with over 2,000 guests in attendance, as the ship prepares to begin its maiden season of Caribbean sailings.

Norwegian Luna will operate round-trip itineraries from Miami through April 2027, covering Eastern and Western Caribbean routes. The itineraries include calls at NCL’s private and resort-style destinations, Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas and Harvest Caye in Belize, reinforcing the company’s focus on curated destination experiences.

Marc Kazlauskas, President, Norwegian Cruise Line, said: “Norwegian Luna represents the evolution of NCL — a brand built on freedom, flexibility and delivering experiences that resonate with every type of traveler. Curated to deliver attractions for families with the NCL-exclusive Aqua Slidecoaster, and the all-new Moon Climber and Luna Midway activities; as well as adult-only experiences like the late-night production of ‘LunaTique,’ Norwegian Luna is the perfect ship for multigenerational travelers looking for a warm vacation in the tropics.”

The christening ceremony followed maritime tradition, featuring the ceremonial breaking of a bottle against the ship’s hull. The event included Norwegian Luna’s godmother and hull artist ELLE, who also created the vessel’s exterior artwork titled ‘La Luna’.

John W. Chidsey, President and Chief Executive Officer, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd., said: “Today’s christening of Norwegian Luna marks an important milestone for our Company and a moment of great pride for our entire team. As she prepares for this special voyage, I look forward to the remarkable experiences she will deliver and to the exciting future ahead for our brand and our guests.”

Measuring 1,056 feet in length and accommodating up to 3,565 guests, Norwegian Luna features the design framework of the Prima Class, with a focus on open spaces and flexible experiences. Key attractions include the Aqua Slidecoaster, described as the longest and fastest slide at sea, along with family-oriented features such as the Glow Court, Luna Game Zone and Horizon Park.

The ship introduces new concepts such as Luna Midway, an outdoor amusement-style space, and Moon Climber, an obstacle course designed for both children and adults. Entertainment offerings include productions such as “Elton: A Celebration of Elton John,” “HIKO: Innovation Meets Wonder,” and “A Tribute to Eagles,” alongside late-night programming like “LunaTique.”

Dining and hospitality remain central to the onboard experience, with 17 dining venues offering multiple global cuisines and 18 bars and lounges catering to varied guest preferences. Accommodation options range from solo cabins to suites within The Haven by Norwegian, providing a range of premium and private experiences.

Following its Caribbean deployment, Norwegian Luna will reposition to New York in April 2027, offering four- and seven-day round-trip sailings to Bermuda through October 2027, with extended port stays aimed at enhancing destination experiences.
