Navratri Day 6: Vrat Katha
According to Hindu scriptures, Sage Katyayana was a devoted worshipper of Goddess Durga. Through years of rigorous penance, he pleased the goddess, who appeared before him and granted him a boon: she would take birth as his daughter. Known as Mother Katyayani, she retained her father’s gotra throughout her life, as per tradition, and became the presiding deity of the Braj region.
Legend also states that the Gopis of Braj worshipped Maa Katyayani to attain Lord Krishna as their husband. This association has made her the goddess of marital blessings, and devotees continue to offer prayers for harmony and fulfillment in married life.
