According to Drik Panchang, Day 3 of Shardiya Navratri is associated with the colour royal blue, symbolising bravery, calmness, and the divine energy of Goddess Chandraghanta.

Shardiya Navratri Day 3: Maa Chandraghanta

During the nine-day-long festival, the third day is dedicated to Maa Chandraghanta, Goddess Parvati’s married form and the third incarnation of Goddess Durga. She represents bravery, courage, peace, and beauty, and is shown with a crescent moon on her forehead and riding a lion or tigress.

Worshipping Maa Chandraghanta on this day is believed to help devotees overcome fear and negativity, and to gain strength and inner peace.

Sharadiya Navratri Day 3: Maa Chandraghanta Vrat Katha

According to mythology, when Mahisasur, the Demon King, began terrorizing the three lokas, he aimed to defeat Indradev in heaven to establish his supremacy. Therefore, he waged a war to fulfill his desire to rule over heaven.

However, in order to stop him, all the gods sought help from Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh and upon hearing this, the three gods became enraged. Their anger generated a powerful energy from their mouths, giving birth to Goddess Chandraghanta.

To fight the Demon King, the Trinity (Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh) and other deities, including Lord Indra, gifted the newly born Goddess Chandraghanta their divine weapons and a lion as her vehicle. Armed and ready, she confronted and defeated Mahishasura, restoring order to the heavens and saving the gods from his tyranny.

Sharadiya Navratri Day 3: Maa Chandraghanta Bhog

As per mythology, it is believed that milk is a favourite offering for Maa Chandraghanta and is traditionally offered as part of the bhog during Navratri.

During Sharadiya Navratri 2025, devotees can offer desserts made from milk like kheer (sweet rice pudding), which symbolises peace, prosperity, and harmony. One can also offer Gud ki Kheer (jaggery rice pudding) or Kesar ki Kheer (saffron rice pudding), both made with rice, milk, and jaggery or saffron, respectively, to the Goddess on Day 3.

If not kheer, devotees can also offer other milk-based sweets or milk itself to the Goddess as bhog on Navratri Day 3, as it is also considered auspicious.
