Move over laser hair removal, laser toning is fast becoming a go-to for brighter, even-toned skin. Dr. Rupika Singh explains the treatment, its benefits, and limitations.

When patients come to me worried about pigmentation, dullness, or uneven skin tone, one treatment I often recommend is laser toning. “Over the past six years at my clinic, I’ve seen how this procedure can transform not just skin, but confidence too,” says Dr Rupika Singh, founder & Chief Dermatologist, Akiya Aesthetics

So, what exactly is it? Laser toning is a safe, non-invasive treatment where controlled laser energy targets excess melanin (the pigment behind dark spots) and gently stimulates collagen production. “In simple words, it helps reduce pigmentation while giving your skin a healthy, even glow,” explains Dr Singh.

The procedure itself is quick usually 20–30 minutes and most patients describe the sensation as a mild warmth or tingling. “There’s no significant downtime, which means you can walk out of the clinic and get back to your day as usual,” she adds.

The benefits are many. Laser toning lightens pigmentation, improves skin brightness, reduces pore size, and can even soften fine lines over time. According to Dr Singh, “It’s not about chasing perfection, but restoring balance to your skin and helping it look healthier.”

But like any treatment, it has its limitations. Results are gradual and require multiple sessions. While side effects are minimal, a bit of temporary redness or sensitivity is common.

“The key thing to remember is that laser toning works best when done under the guidance of a trained dermatologist,” says Dr Singh. “When patients come to me after struggling with stubborn pigmentation or dullness, this treatment often gives them results that feel both natural and long-lasting.”
