Longevity clinics can aid heart health, but experts stress lifestyle habits and careful guidance over unnecessary tests and procedures.

Longevity clinics can provide valuable insights into heart health, but they are most effective when paired with foundational habits and careful medical supervision.

Longevity clinics are gaining popularity as more people seek ways to extend healthy lifespans. These clinics offer advanced tools, including heart scans that detect early plaque buildup, specialized biomarkers, and genetic testing. While these innovations can help identify individuals at higher risk for heart disease, experts emphasize that the information alone is not enough, consistent, informed action is key.

“Longevity clinics offer several tools that can be useful if applied carefully and with guidance. Heart scans that pick up early plaque, specialized biomarkers, and genetic testing can help spot people at higher risk, giving them a chance to act before symptoms appear. Having this information alone does not prevent heart disease, what matters is consistent action afterward,” said Dr PRLN Prasad, Consultant, Interventional Cardiologist, Gleneagles BGS Hospital, Kengeri, Bengaluru.

Dr Prasad adds that procedures such as stenting should be performed only when medically necessary, not as a precautionary measure. “These clinics work best when tests are combined with ongoing lifestyle habits, such as regular exercise, a balanced diet, and careful monitoring of blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar. Together, these steps can reinforce healthy routines and make prevention plans more practical and personalized for each person.”

However, the range of tests available at longevity clinics can be overwhelming, potentially leading patients to undergo procedures that may not be required. “It is equally important to keep in mind that having access to multiple tests and procedures can be overwhelming. Patients may feel compelled to undergo everything, even when it is not necessary. That’s why guidance from an experienced cardiologist is essential to make sense of the results and focus only on the steps that truly matter for each individual,” notes Dr Prasad.

Similarly, Dr. P L N Kapardhi, Clinical Director, Cath Lab & Sr. Interventional Cardiologist, CARE Hospitals, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, cautions patients to understand the limitations of these tests and procedures. “Longevity clinics can sound exciting, but patients need to be careful. Tests like specialized heart biomarkers or genetic profiling are useful for people with clear risk factors, but for someone healthy, their value is limited. Similarly, procedures such as preventive stents carry real risks, from complications during the procedure to giving people a false sense of security that lifestyle changes aren’t necessary.”

Dr. Kapardhi emphasizes that while the concept of “reversing” heart ageing is appealing, there is no long-term proof that these interventions prevent heart attacks or extend lifespan. “The basics of heart health staying active, eating well, controlling blood pressure and diabetes, and avoiding tobacco remain the most effective strategies. Because these clinics are expensive, it’s also important that regulators ensure claims are truthful and backed by evidence. Anti-ageing medicine should support traditional care, not replace it.”

Both experts agree that heart health is cumulative. Screening tools may help identify risks early, but meaningful outcomes rely on integrating these findings with consistent lifestyle habits. Dr. Kapardhi adds, “People should also be aware of the psychological impact, feeling ‘protected’ after a procedure can sometimes reduce motivation for exercise, diet control, or regular medical check-ups. The promise of longevity is compelling, but without careful evaluation and guidance from qualified physicians, it can easily lead to unnecessary interventions and financial strain.”

In conclusion, longevity clinics can provide valuable insights into heart health, but they are most effective when paired with foundational habits and careful medical supervision. The combination of advanced testing, expert guidance, and consistent lifestyle practices remains the most reliable path to long-term cardiovascular wellness.
