Sustainability is key to long-term success.

In a world overflowing with diet trends and quick-fix plans, the pursuit of lasting weight loss can feel like chasing a mirage. One month, everyone swears by keto; the next, it’s intermittent fasting or an all-out no-carb challenge. But what really works, and more importantly, what lasts?

Celebrity fitness trainer Siddhartha Singh, who has worked with Tamannaah Bhatia, recently shared an honest take on Instagram that cuts through the noise. His answer isn’t about carbs or calories. It’s about sustainability.

Before revealing his verdict, let’s break down how these three popular diets actually function.

Keto: Fat as Fuel

The ketogenic diet flips the traditional food pyramid by emphasising fat instead of carbs. When the body runs out of glucose (its main energy source), it turns to fat for fuel – a metabolic state known as ketosis. This helps reduce appetite and burn fat more efficiently.

Eat: eggs, paneer, meat, olive oil, cheese, nuts, low-carb veggies.

Avoid: grains, sugar, starchy vegetables, and most fruits.

While keto can deliver quick results, the challenge begins when your sandwich cravings strike back.

No-Carb: The Extreme Edition

Taking keto up a notch, the no-carb diet nearly eliminates carbohydrates. The result? Rapid initial fat loss, but also fatigue and nutrient gaps if sustained too long.

Eat: meats, eggs, dairy, and oils.

Avoid: everything with carbs, from rice and bread to fruits and legumes.

Intermittent Fasting: Timing Is Everything

Rather than cutting food groups, intermittent fasting (IF) focuses on when you eat. Popular versions like the 16:8 method limit eating to an eight-hour window, giving your body time to burn fat during fasting periods.

Eat: balanced meals during eating hours; water, coffee, or tea during fasting.

So, What’s the Best Diet?

According to the trainer, every diet works, but only if it’s something you can follow consistently. “Before starting, ask yourself – can I eat like this for the rest of my life?” he says. “If the answer is no, it’s not the right diet.”

In other words, the best diet isn’t keto, no-carb, or fasting. It’s the one you can sustain without misery, deprivation, or rebound weight gain.
