The Mukerji family’s Durga Puja celebrations have always been a much-anticipated affair in Mumbai, bringing together warmth, nostalgia, and grandeur. This year, the festivities carried a deeper sentiment as the family remembered their late uncle, Deb Mukherjee, who had been at the heart of these celebrations for decades. While the spirit of devotion and festivity remained intact, it was the women of the family – Kajol and Rani Mukerji – who infused the pandal with timeless style and grace.

Kajol’s Regal Cream and Red Ensemble

Kajol turned heads in a cream silk saree from Gopi Vaid Designs. The Rs 60,000 Farida saree set featured intricate embroidery along the borders, striking a perfect balance between understated luxury and festive radiance. She paired it with a striking red blouse embellished with motifs, which added a bold contrast to the soft sheen of the drape. Styled with statement jhumkas and minimal makeup, Kajol’s look epitomised effortless tradition while exuding her signature charm. Her appearance resonated with the festive hues of Durga Puja, symbolising both power and grace.

Rani Mukerji’s Graceful White Saree

Rani Mukerji, meanwhile, opted for the Doaba Saree (which retails for Rs 14,900) from Nayantara Mumbai. The white saree, adorned with delicate black floral embroidery and subtle red accents, reflected her penchant for understated yet refined fashion. She draped it with ease, letting the craftsmanship speak for itself, while keeping her accessories to a minimum. With her hair styled and a radiant smile, Rani embodied quiet elegance – a look that was festive without being overpowering.

A Family Affair with Emotional Undertones

The Mukerji family’s Durga Puja has long been one of the city’s cultural highlights, and this year saw the presence of filmmaker Ayan Mukerji in a classic white kurta pyjama and actress Tanishaa Mukerji in a lemon-hued saree. Together, the family celebrated with joy while honouring Deb Mukherjee’s legacy. For Kajol and Rani, their fashion choices served not only as festive ensembles but also as expressions of tradition, love, and remembrance.
