Social media, vlogs, and mini-guides have become essential research tools for a generation that prioritizes relatability over polish.

Creator-led travel is reshaping tourism with personalized experiences.

Creator-led travel is reshaping tourism with personalized experiences.

Tourism has always reflected the spirit of its era – from glossy magazines and guidebooks to travel shows on TV. But today, the way people discover, plan, and experience travel is being rewritten by an unexpected force: digital creators. For Gen Z, trips are no longer just about visiting destinations; they are about curating authentic experiences, sharing stories, and connecting with voices they trust. Social media, vlogs, and mini-guides are no longer optional; they have become the primary research tools for a generation that values relatability over polish.

The Power of Creator-Curated Journeys

Sanjith Mukund, Co-Founder of JrnyOn, explains: “We are living through a fundamental change in how journeys are imagined and experienced. Millennials were the first to embrace digital creators as trusted voices, but it is Gen Z that has taken this movement mainstream. For them, creator-inspired travel is not a side trend but the default way to explore the world.”

He adds: “Creator-curated travel is democratising the design of experiences, moving it away from the domain of large tour operators and into the hands of storytellers, experts, and community leaders. Travellers join the world of someone they admire and already feel connected to. For Gen Z especially, travel is about identity, purpose, and expression.”

Authenticity Over Aspiration

Travel content creator Ankitha Rajendaran highlights how Gen Z is reshaping tourism: “Travel content isn’t just entertainment in 2025; it’s become the primary research tool for a generation. Where my generation relied on Lonely Planet guides and long-form blogs, young travellers in India now follow travel creators on social media, discovering places through Vlogs, Reels, and Stories, making purchases after a scroll, and increasingly booking stays and experiences via social platforms.”

She adds: “Traditional travel media sold dreams of five-star resorts and bucket-list itineraries, but Gen Z craves authenticity. Indian Gen Z and millennial travellers prioritise festivals, pop-up events, and local experiences over ticking boxes, spawning a whole new category of tourism.”

Experience, Trust, and Relatability

Ankita Kumar of Monkey Inc. underscores the importance of trust in this trend: “More than trusting websites, Gen Z wants to experience travel like their favourite travel creators. Raw, offbeat experiences are taking over from Instagram-worthy glamorous experiences. In a world where Google reviews can be bought, they prefer going by what the travel creators they follow recommend because there’s an element of trust and relatability there. Moreover, exploring a place with their trusted travel creators adds another layer of excitement and curiosity.”

Redrawing the Map of Tourism

The impact is tangible: creator-led travel is redirecting visitor flows, creating hotspots and hidden gems alike. Viral posts fuel tourism in previously overlooked areas, while backlash content spurs exploration of the next undiscovered spot. Passion, technology, and community are converging to reshape tourism by making travel more personalised, immersive, and aligned with values like sustainability and cultural immersion.

The Future of Travel

For Gen Z, the journey is just as important as the destination. With creators curating experiences and travellers seeking authenticity, the travel industry is witnessing a shift from aspirational to experiential, from passive consumption to active participation. The new age of tourism is participatory, connected, and storyteller-driven, ensuring every journey is a reflection of identity, curiosity, and purpose.
