SOI Autumn 2025 Season: Martyn Brabbins conducts Rimsky-Korsakov & Shostakovich

Martyn Brabbins returns to conduct the Symphony Orchestra of India for two concerts of the SOI Autumn 2025 season. Brabbins, who takes over as SOI’s Chief Conductor from January 2026, will lead an evocative program of two orchestral masterpieces.

Inspired by the tales of One Thousand and One Nights, Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade is one of the most beloved works of the Romantic repertoire, a lush and colourful suite that paints vivid scenes of exotic adventure and romance. In contrast, Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5, written under intense political pressure during Stalin’s regime, is a powerful blend of personal expression and public statement, reflecting both suffering and resilience — one of the most enduring works of the 20th century.
