Amid ongoing SIR process, multiple cases of BLO suicides have been reported across the state. One such tragic incident came from Deoria, Uttar Pradesh, where a Lekhpal named Ashish Kumar died by suicide allegedly due to excessive workload pressure. According to sources, the deceased Lekhpal’s sister while speaking to reporters, said that her brother had been working under extremely heavy workload conditions.” Everyone was pressurizing him to complete his assigned work . Due to stress, he had to take this extreme step.” she claimed. It was also reported that Ashish Kumar was suffering from Kidney stone and his deteriorating health added to the pressure . during his treatment, he reportedly lost his life. Meanwhile, the SDM net the bereaved family. Witnesses said she became emotional after seeing the family’s condition. The family has demanded a compensation of Rs 5crore and a government job for one member. Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav also reacted to the incident, announcing financial assistance of Rs2 Lakh to the family and criticizing the BJP government over the increasing workload pressure on officials during the SIR process.
