Parliament Update: Lok Sabha Agrees on Paper Leak Bill Debate After Opposition Disruptions

At the beginning of the session, Lok Sabha Speaker highlighted the importance of allowing parliamentary debate and dialogue on the key legislation. He urged both the government and opposition to maintain cooperation, especially during Question Hour, while acknowledging that members have the right to raise important issues. The Speaker appealed for discussions to take place in a constructive manner so that different viewpoints could be presented inside the House. A major development came with confirmation that the government and opposition had reached an understanding on discussing the paper leak prevention bill. The debate on the proposed legislation is scheduled to begin at 2 PM, with both sides agreeing to allocate time for discussion. The move is seen as an attempt to restore legislative functioning after repeated disruptions during the Monsoon Session. Before parliamentary business moved ahead, the House also recognised India’s sporting achievements. Members congratulated Indian athletes, including para-athletes and young sportspersons who won medals at international competitions. Eighteen-year-old squash player Anahat Singh’s historic achievement at the World Junior Squash Team Championship was also highlighted.
