ELECTION UPDATE: Prashant Kishor Leads BJP Candidate in High-Stakes Bankipur Bypoll

Counting of votes is underway for the Bankipur Assembly by-election in Bihar, where Jan Suraaj Party candidate Prashant Kishor has taken an early lead, creating a major political buzz. After the completion of postal ballot counting, the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) votes are being counted, and initial trends show Kishor ahead by around 862 votes. Prashant Kishor is contesting against BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar Sinha in this closely watched election battle. The Bankipur seat holds special importance for the Bharatiya Janata Party as it has remained a traditional stronghold of the party. The constituency became vacant after Nitin Nabin, who had represented the seat and was later sent to the Rajya Sabha, moved on from the Assembly position. The counting process is being conducted in multiple rounds, with votes from around 422 polling booths being counted. Nearly 130,000 votes are expected to be counted across 30 rounds. Early trends after the first round have placed Prashant Kishor in front, while the BJP candidate is currently in the second position. The RJD candidate is also trailing in the initial phase of counting. The Bankipur by-election has gained national attention as it marks Prashant Kishor’s first major electoral contest after entering active politics. Despite the seat being considered a BJP bastion, Kishor’s early advantage has boosted confidence among Jan Suraaj supporters.
