The controversy surrounding election observer Ajay Pal Sharma has intensified amid ongoing political tensions in West Bengal. A new video has surfaced showing Sharma allegedly reprimanding election officials over lapses in duty, sparking fresh debate. Opposition leaders, including Akhilesh Yadav, have accused the ruling party of deploying a “trusted officer” to influence the electoral process, calling it politically motivated. However, officials clarify that Sharma has been appointed as an independent observer by the Election Commission and has a long service record as an IPS officer. Currently posted in South 24 Parganas, a politically sensitive region, Sharma is reportedly working in “action mode,” closely monitoring sensitive areas to ensure peaceful voting and prevent electoral violence. His deployment has triggered strong reactions from opposition parties, particularly the TMC and INDIA alliance, which allege bias due to the constituency being a stronghold of the ruling party. Meanwhile, supporters argue his presence is aimed at maintaining law and order during elections, as political tensions continue to rise ahead of polling.
