Parliament Watch: Monsoon Session Opens Amid Opposition Offensive From Streets to Parliament

The first day of the Monsoon Session witnessed an intense political atmosphere as opposition parties prepared to challenge the government both inside Parliament and through coordinated demonstrations outside. With several contentious issues dominating the national conversation, the opposition signaled an aggressive strategy aimed at pressing the government for answers during the session. Key concerns expected to dominate parliamentary proceedings include the alleged paper leak controversy, the NEET examination issue, ethanol policy, inflation, unemployment, and foreign policy. Opposition leaders indicated that these subjects would be raised in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha through discussions, notices, and debates. Ahead of the session, an all-party meeting and the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting sought to build consensus on ensuring smooth functioning of Parliament. While opposition leaders expressed dissatisfaction and briefly staged a walkout during earlier discussions, both sides reportedly agreed to allow parliamentary business to proceed. However, political observers note that such understandings often face challenges once proceedings begin. Congress and other INDIA bloc parties also held strategy meetings within the Parliament complex to coordinate their approach inside and outside the House. The alliance is expected to demand detailed responses from the government on examination-related controversies, economic concerns, and other public interest issues. Senior opposition leaders are likely to raise these matters prominently during debates. As lawmakers continued arriving at the Parliament complex, the opening day reflected heightened political activity, setting the stage for a potentially eventful Monsoon Session. The coming days are expected to witness sharp exchanges between the treasury benches and the opposition as both sides seek to shape the national political narrative through parliamentary debates and public messaging.
