Breaking: Police Raid Abhishek Banerjee’s Residence, ED Conducts Searches at Madan Mitra’s Premises

Political tensions escalated in West Bengal after police conducted a late-night operation at the residence of TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee in Kolkata. According to reports, a police team arrived at the residence around 2:30 a.m. and remained there until approximately 8:00 a.m. The operation has sparked a fresh political controversy amid ongoing turmoil within the ruling Trinamool Congress. Police sources indicated that the visit was linked to the search for an individual identified as Sumit Roy, reportedly a personal assistant associated with Banerjee, who is said to be facing allegations related to fraud and forgery. Officials reportedly carried out searches at multiple locations inside the residence during the operation. Supporters of Banerjee have alleged that security personnel initially resisted entry and that authorities entered after breaking a lock, a claim that has further fueled political debate. Meanwhile, a separate development has added to the pressure on the party. The Enforcement Directorate conducted raids at premises linked to TMC MLA Madan Mitra in connection with an alleged municipal recruitment irregularities case. The investigation is reportedly linked to around 125 suspected illegal appointments in municipal bodies. The twin developments come at a time when the Trinamool Congress is already facing internal challenges and heightened political scrutiny. Opposition parties have demanded greater transparency in the ongoing investigations, while TMC leaders have accused agencies of targeting party members. Authorities have not yet released detailed findings from either operation. Investigations are continuing, and officials are expected to examine documents, electronic records, and other evidence collected during the searches. With both the police action involving Abhishek Banerjee’s residence and the ED raids linked to Madan Mitra drawing attention, the developments are likely to intensify political debate in West Bengal in the coming days.
