A major and alarming incident has been reported from Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya. A massive fire broke out in the Goenka Compound area, causing widespread destruction. According to initial information, around 50 to 60 houses have been engulfed by the flames, creating panic and chaos across the locality. The intensity of the fire is such that huge flames and thick smoke can be seen from a long distance. Eyewitnesses say the fire spread rapidly, leaving residents with little time to react. Several families were forced to flee their homes to save their lives. The area witnessed scenes of fear, chaos, and distress, with people seen screaming and running for safety. On receiving information, multiple fire brigade teams rushed to the spot and are continuously trying to control the blaze. However, firefighting operations are proving difficult due to the dense residential area and the presence of closely packed houses. The exact cause of the fire is not known yet. Authorities have stated that the top priority at the moment is to bring the fire under control and ensure the safety of residents. A detailed investigation and damage assessment will be carried out after the situation stabilizes.
