BREAKING: Kanwar Yatra Peaks as Devotees Brave Rain, Faith Shines Ahead of Sawan Shivratri 2026

The spirit of devotion continues to dominate northern India as millions of Kanwar pilgrims undertake their sacred journey during the holy month of Sawan despite persistent monsoon rains. Haridwar has witnessed an overwhelming influx of devotees arriving to take a holy dip in the Ganga and collect sacred water for offering at Shiva temples across the country. Rainfall has failed to dampen the enthusiasm of worshippers, many of whom describe the pleasant weather as a blessing that has made the pilgrimage more comfortable. Highways across western Uttar Pradesh remain filled with Kanwariyas chanting devotional slogans while carrying decorated Kanwars of varying sizes. One of the major attractions this year is a specially designed Kanwar carrying 301 litres of Ganga water, drawing large crowds and widespread attention as it travels through Meerut and nearby districts. The group carrying the Kanwar says it represents prayers for social welfare, protection of cows, national prosperity, and other personal aspirations. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has urged officials to ensure that Kanwar Yatra remains peaceful, disciplined, and well-managed, directing authorities to provide respectful treatment to pilgrims, maintain robust security arrangements, and take strict action against anyone attempting to disrupt communal harmony or spread misinformation. Another heartwarming moment from the pilgrimage features four sons carrying their 70-year-old father in a specially arranged Kanwar while simultaneously transporting holy Ganga water, symbolizing devotion, family values, and respect for elders. The annual pilgrimage is now approaching its grand finale, with millions of devotees preparing for the sacred Jalabhishek on Sawan Shivratri. Authorities continue to monitor routes, crowd movement, and weather conditions to ensure a safe and smooth conclusion to one of India’s largest annual religious gatherings.
