BMC Elections 2026: Thackeray Brothers Unite to Challenge BJP in BMC Polls

In a major development ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray are set to announce a historic alliance, marking the first time in nearly two decades that the two brothers’ parties are coming together. The press conference is scheduled for 12 PM today, where the seat-sharing arrangement will be revealed. According to sources, Uddhav Thackeray’s party is likely to contest 145–150 seats, Raj Thackeray’s MNS 65–70 seats, while Sharad Pawar’s NCP may contest 10–12 seats. This strategic alliance is expected to consolidate the Marathi manoos vote and pose a challenge to the BJP in Mumbai. The BMC elections are crucial for both parties, especially as MNS has previously secured significant votes in wards despite limited wins. Ahead of the announcement, both brothers will pay homage at Balasaheb Thackeray’s memorial before holding the press conference in Worli. Meanwhile, Mahayuti and Congress are monitoring the situation closely, with Congress negotiating seat-sharing with smaller parties to protect its voter base in key areas.
