Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Saturday inaugurated the 120-bed Capital Hospital in Moga, saying the facility would improve access to advanced healthcare services in the Malwa region. The hospital, described by the state government as the first National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH)-accredited multi-speciality hospital in Moga district, will offer specialised treatment for critical illnesses.The Chief Minister said eligible patients would be able to avail cashless treatment under the Punjab Government’s Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna and the Centre’s Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY).

He added that the state government continues to expand healthcare services through its network of 1,090 Aam Aadmi Clinics.In a post on X, Mann said the hospital was equipped with advanced medical facilities and would provide free treatment under the Mukh Mantri Sehat Bima Yojana. He said the facility would reduce the need for people in the Malwa region to travel to other cities for treatment.Addressing the gathering, Mann said the event was focused on development rather than politics, adding that education and healthcare remained the government’s two main priorities. He said doctors were held in high regard and described healthcare and education as professions dedicated to public service. He added that the government was working to restore public confidence in both sectors.Referring to the newly inaugurated hospital, Mann said it would provide access to advanced medical equipment and specialist doctors. He also highlighted the state’s education reforms, stating that Punjab had moved from 27th place in school education in 2022 to the top position following reforms introduced by the government.Mann said the government had established Schools of Eminence to strengthen public education. He added that the number of students from government schools qualifying the NEET examination had increased from 82 in 2022 to 881 this year.The Chief Minister said both the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna and central government health insurance schemes would be available at the hospital. He also highlighted the state’s Sadak Surakhya Force, stating that it comprises 1,597 trained personnel supported by 144 vehicles to improve road safety on state and national highways.According to Mann, road accident fatalities have declined by nearly 50 per cent since the force was launched in February last year.He also said Punjab had introduced a universal healthcare scheme offering cashless treatment of up to ₹10 lakh annually to every resident family in the state. Mann said beneficiaries had availed treatment worth more than ₹650 crore under the scheme.The chief minister further said Punjab had established a liver transplant centre in Mohali, describing it as the second such facility in the country after Delhi.
