Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav celebrated his birthday with party workers organising religious events across Uttar Pradesh. In Varanasi, supporters performed a unique ritual in the Ganga River, carrying portraits of Lord Krishna and Akhilesh Yadav while conducting a milk ablution (dugdhabhishek). Priests chanted Vedic hymns, performed a special puja and Ganga Aarti, as party workers pledged to make Akhilesh Yadav the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in the 2027 Assembly elections. Supporters also prayed for his long life and political success, expressing confidence that he would return to power. Meanwhile, the BJP criticised the ceremony, alleging that placing Akhilesh Yadav’s portrait alongside Lord Krishna insulted Hindu sentiments. BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari accused the Samajwadi Party of disrespecting Hindu beliefs and questioned its stance on religious issues, including Mathura. Separately, in Meerut, Samajwadi Party workers organised a Sundarkand recitation, offering prayers to Lord Hanuman for Akhilesh Yadav’s good health, political success and the party’s return to power in Uttar Pradesh during the 2027 elections.
