Weather Alert: High Tide Threat Raises Flood Concerns in Mumbai

Mumbai is facing a heightened flood risk as heavy rainfall coincides with the possibility of high tide, raising concerns over waterlogging across low-lying areas. Officials have forecast a high tide of nearly four metres, while the weather department has issued Orange and Yellow alerts for the next four days. Continuous rain could prevent stormwater from draining into the sea, worsening flooding in several parts of the city. The Andheri subway is already submerged, with water levels exceeding four feet and making the route unsafe for commuters. Authorities have barricaded the area to stop vehicle movement. Coastal waves near Worli and the Bandra-Worli Sea Link have also intensified, highlighting the impact of rough sea conditions. Residents and local businesses continue to suffer recurring losses during every monsoon season. Concerns have also been raised over inadequate drainage maintenance and incomplete pre-monsoon preparations by the BMC, despite its large budget. Officials warn that if rainfall continues for the next few hours, flood conditions across Mumbai and neighbouring Thane could worsen significantly.
