‘Possible security issue’: United Airlines flight diverted, passengers evacuated via emergency slides in Pittsburgh - watch

United flight diverted, passengers evacuated via emergency slides in Pittsburgh

A United Airlines flight bound for New York was forced to make an emergency diversion to Pittsburgh International Airport on Saturday after the crew reported a possible security threat onboard.According to The Guardian, Flight 2092 had taken off from Chicago O’Hare International Airport and was headed to LaGuardia Airport when it was rerouted mid-air. Passengers were evacuated using emergency slides after landing, and videos shared online showed the aircraft stationed on the tarmac with slides deployed.

Bomb scare triggered by ‘beeping noise’

Initial concerns stemmed from a “possible security issue,” as described by US aviation authorities. Crew members detected a “beeping noise” during the flight, prompting them to treat the situation as a potential bomb threat.“We are going to have to start treating this as a potential bomb… it’s a beeping noise, sequential, one beep per second,” a crew member was heard saying in cockpit audio. The aircraft, a Boeing 737 carrying 159 passengers and six crew members, landed safely, with no injuries reported.

FBI, bomb squad sweep aircraft

Law enforcement agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, responded to the scene along with local police and bomb disposal teams. Explosive ordnance disposal units and sniffer dogs conducted a thorough search of the aircraft, passengers, and luggage.Authorities later confirmed that the sweep returned “negative results,” indicating no explosive device was found.Officials subsequently cleared the aircraft, and airport operations continued without disruption.Following the incident, passengers were rebooked on alternate flights to New York. Emergency services, including fire trucks and ambulances, were present during the evacuation but stood down after the situation was resolved.
