Indian-origin millionaire arrested in US; Vikram Beri tried setting California winery on fire; crashed Tesla into two cars

An Indian-origin entrepreneur was arrested in the United States for allegedly trying to start a fire, hurling a wine bottle, and crashing his Tesla into two parked cars. Beri Vikram, 42, founder of BetterLYF Wellness, allegedly went berserk at Garrod Farms Estate Winery & Stables in Saratoga in the Bay Area on Saturday, trying to start a fire, hurling a wine bottle, and crashing his Tesla into two parked cars, the Santa Clara Sheriff’s office said. “It was a “wild scene in Saratoga”,” the sheriff’s office said.

How the incident unfolded?

The incident began when staff at the swanky venue — which acts as an equestrian centre and winery — noticed Vikram attempting to ignite a fire, New York Post reported. When workers at the estate confronted Vikram, who founded BetterLYF Wellness, an online mental health counselling platform, he allegedly threw a wine bottle. He then got into his Tesla and intentionally rammed it into two parked cars, sending one over an embankment, the sheriff’s office said. His car careened down the embankment, where police arrived. Vikram refused to be taken into custody, and after “several de-escalation attempts”, deputies used pepperball and spray to force him out of the car. He crawled out and was taken to hospital for evaluation, the sheriff’s office said. Vikram, who launched his mental health company in 2016, was later booked at the County of Santa Clara main jail and charged with assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest.
