Watch: Crater-like potholes on Chiplun’s Vashishti bridge; NHAI says not its jurisdiction

.

A drone video showing potholes on the Vashishti bridge in Chiplun, part of the Mumbai-Goa highway, has gone viral on social media. The footage, which users compared to the surface of the moon, highlights the poor state of the bridge where crater-like potholes stretch across the road. Heavy trucks are seen parked near the divider, making it even more difficult for smaller vehicles to move safely. The condition has raised serious concerns among commuters about accidents and delays. On social media, people reacted in different ways. One person wrote, “You better go and visit Gujarat and Karnataka again and again, and then travel from Mumbai to Goa by this highway. You’ll see the difference. This is getting pathetic with the same hope every year.” Another commented in Marathi, “It’s not that there are potholes on the road, the road itself is on potholes.” After the video drew wide attention, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) issued a clarification on X. It said the Chiplun bridge on the Mumbai-Goa highway did not come under its jurisdiction.
