Two protestors arrested for stripping woman constable

RAIPUR: Two of four suspects accused of ripping off a woman constable’s uniform during anti-mining unrest in Chhattisgarh’s Raigarh last week were arrested Friday, based on video footage purportedly showing them attack the cop as she slumps to the ground & pleads with them to spare her.The arrested duo, Mangal Rathiya and Chinesh Khamari of Aamgaon village, have been charged with attempted murder, using criminal force on a woman, outraging her modesty, grievous assault on a public servant, and stopping her from discharging her duty. They are in judicial custody. “Police are scanning video footage and other digital evidence to identify and apprehend the remaining suspects,” Raigarh SP Divyang Patel told TOI.The suspects, part of a cluster of 14 villages on the boil over mining operations, targeted the constable at Raigarh’s Libra Chowk on Dec 27. Chhattisgarh PCC president Deepak Baij demanded strict legal action against those who tried to strip a woman in uniform, saying the crime reflected public anger against police and the state govt for alleged administrative failures.
