'They care only about vote bank': PM Modi targets Cong over illegal immigrants - top quotes from Assam rally

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched scathing attack against Congress and claimed that it is “indulging in anti-national activities” by allowing illegal Bangladeshi immigrants to settle in Assam. While addressing a rally in Assam’s Dibrugarh, the Prime Minister said that Congress does not care about the people’s lives and only cares about its vote bank.

PM Modi Says BJP Correcting Congress Mistakes As Assam Gets New Airport And Northeast Push

Here are the top quotes from PM Modi’s address:

  • I bow before this land of Braves. I can see so many people have come here to shower their love, especially the women. The love and blessings you bring are our biggest strength and energy. It’s an incredible feeling. Many of the sisters here come with the fragrance of tea gardens.
  • Today, everyone is saying that Assam has gained the pace of development. I want to tell you that what you are seeing and experiencing is just the beginning. We have to take Assam forward together. Assam had a significant role in the Ahom empire, and in a Viksit Bharat, we will make Assam shine similarly.
  • In the BJP’s double-engine government, the synergy between industry and connectivity is fulfilling Assam’s dreams and giving courage to the youth to envision newer aspirations for a developed India.
  • Why is it that welfare work for farmers gained momentum only after the BJP came to power? Namrup was once a major fertiliser production centre that benefited the entire Northeast and stood as a hope for farmers in difficult times. But the machines became outdated, and the Congress government did not care, leading to the shutdown of several units and suffering for farmers. Congress found no solutions. Today, our double-engine government is resolving the issues created earlier. Across the country, many factories were shut, farmers were lathi-charged during urea distribution.
  • Congress worsened the situation to such an extent that even after 11 years of hard work, much still needs to be done. During their tenure, many fertiliser factories were shut down, whereas our government has started several. We are moving ahead with full strength to make India self-reliant in fertilisers in the coming days.
  • Urea is imported at high prices from abroad, but we do not let farmers suffer. The BJP government provides subsidies and bears the burden. When a farmer gets a bag of urea for Rs 300, the Indian government pays nearly Rs 3,000 to foreign suppliers.
  • We do not have the right to ‘kill’ Mother Earth by overusing urea. This land is our mother, and it is our responsibility to protect her.
  • It was the BJP government that opened Jan Dhan bank accounts for 7.5 lakh tea garden workers, enabling direct benefit transfer (DBT).
  • The BJP government has always kept Assamese culture and identity as a top priority. We highlight Assam at every stage. A few days ago, when Russian President Vladimir Putin visited India, I proudly gifted him Assamese black tea in Delhi.
  • When our government conferred the Bharat Ratna on Bhupen Da, the Congress openly opposed it. Their leaders mocked the decision, saying Modi was giving the Bharat Ratna to someone who sings and dances. Congress has always disrespected Assam and its culture. It was the Congress government that denied land rights to tea community workers, while the BJP government granted them rights and a life of dignity. I am a ‘chai wala’ – if not me, then who will do this?
  • Congress continues to promote anti-national thinking. They want to shelter illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators in Assam’s land and forests. Even if people’s lives are destroyed, Congress does not care – they care only about their vote bank. They are interested only in power and are protecting illegal infiltrators, which is why they are opposing the sanitisation of the voters’ list.
