Pulwama attack: NIA court orders forfeiture of house Jaish used as hideout

JAMMU: The special NIA court in Jammu has ordered forfeiture of a residential house in Pulwama allegedly used as a hideout and planning base by JeM operatives behind the attack on the CRPF convoy on Feb 14, 2019, that killed 40 CRPF personnel. The court declared the property, located in Kakpora in Pulwama, “proceeds of terrorism” under Sections 25–26 of the UAPA and barred any transfer or third-party interest.Judge Sandeep Gandotra on Monday allowed an application moved by the NIA seeking forfeiture of the house spread over 9.5 marlas (around 2600 sq ft) and registered in the name of Naseema Bano, wife of accused Peer Tariq Ahmed Shah. The court gave an ex-parte order as Bano failed to appear.During the probe, the investigators established that JeM terrorists used the house before and after bombing the CRPF convoy, with household members allegedly providing shelter. The court directed that the asset shall neither be transferred by any mode nor encumbered until the culmination of the main NIA trial.NIA has named 19 persons, including Pakistani nationals and Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Masood Azhar, in its 13,500-page charge sheet in the case.
