In West Bengal’s Kushmandi, Bharatiya Janata Party’s candidate Tapas Chandra Roy emerged victorious with 97,437 votes. Trinamool Congress’ Rekha Roy trailed behind by 9,063 votes with 88,374 total votes.Kushmandi (SC) is a Scheduled Caste-reserved constituency in Dakshin Dinajpur district of West Bengal, forming part of the Balurghat parliamentary seat. In 2026, the candidates include Rekha Roy of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Tapas Chandra Roy of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Bablu Sarkar of the Congress.In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, Kushmandi had 2,19,921 registered electors of whom 1,84,075 cast valid votes.
Election Results 2026
Rekha Roy of the TMC won the seat with 89,968 votes, defeating BJP candidate Ranjit Kumar Roy, who secured 77,384 votes, by a margin of 12,584 votes. In the 2016 elections, the seat was held by the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), with Roy having narrowly lost that contest by just 3,529 votes.The constituency is reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates and lies within a largely rural belt where agriculture and allied activities form the primary source of livelihoods. Key concerns include access to irrigation, protection from floods, better road connectivity, and the effective delivery of welfare schemes, particularly for the rural and marginalised sections of the electorate.The constituency went to polls on April 23, as part of Phase 1. Dakshin Dinajpur district recorded a voter turnout of 95.44%.
