NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi released a specially designed commemorative postage stamp and a coin highlighting the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s (RSS) contribution to the nation at a programme in Delhi on Wednesday to mark the centenary celebrations of the Hindutva organisation.Prime Minister Modi attended the event at Dr Ambedkar International Centre as the chief guest and addressed the audience.Addressing the event, PM Modi said, “… Tomorrow is Vijayadashmi, a festival which symbolises the victory of good over evil, victory of justice over injustice, victory of truth over falsehoods, and victory of light over darkness… The establishment of RSS as an organisation on this great day 100 years ago, was no coincidence.”Calling the Sangh a collective force of ordinary people achieving extraordinary work, Modi described its shakhas as “Yagna Vedis”. “It is said for the Sangh that here common people together do extraordinary work. Sangha Sakhas are like ‘Yagna Vedi'”.The prime minister also said, “RSS’ glorious 100-year journey an extraordinary example of sacrifice, selfless service, nation-building, and discipline,” adding, “Our generation of ‘swayamsevaks’ is fortunate to witness centenary years of RSS.” Earlier, Dattatreya Hosabalel, general secretary of the RSS, also addressed the centenary event. “Tomorrow’s Vijaya Dashmi has a special place in the journey of RSS as it is stepping into its 101st year,” Hosabale said. Earlier on Sunday, while addressing the nation on Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for an “unprecedented and inspiring” journey as the organisation will complete 100 years on the occasion of Vijayadashami.Founded in 1925 in Nagpur by Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) was established as a volunteer-based organisation with an aim to foster cultural awareness, discipline, service and social responsibility among citizens.
