Car parked at home, FASTag deducts toll

.

LUDHIANA: A trader in Ludhiana’s Khanna city was at home and his car parked outside, when a FASTag message pinged from his bank – Rs 150 toll deducted at Kiranj toll plaza, reports Shariq Majeed. Gurpreet Singh, 41, was stunned. Kiranj was some 350km away in Haryana, on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. “I actually ran out to see if my car was still there. It was parked right there,” Gurpreet told TOI. “I have never driven on the route where toll charges were deducted from my account,” he said. “I immediately called the NHAI helpline and the customer care of my bank.” An NHAI official told him Monday evening he would be informed about the result of his complaint in 24 hours. The bank told him his money would be refunded within 15 days and it may have been a “technical issue”. On March 31, Paramjit Ahuja, also from Khanna, got a message his vehicle had crossed Dharer Azizpur toll plaza, while his car was parked outside his home. He got a message Rs 45 was deducted from his FASTag account. Ahuja said he never got a refund.
