Zac Efron builds eco-friendly dream home in remote Australian rainforest

Hollywood star Zac Efron is constructing a private eco-haven in Australia’s Tweed Valley rainforest. This off-grid, zero-waste residence, dubbed Futurecave, is being built with hemp and natural materials, aiming to be the healthiest home on Earth. Efron’s commitment to sustainability and his growing ties to Australia are evident in this ambitious project.

Zac Efron is quietly building a private eco-home in a remote Australian rainforest, according to a new report. The actor has reportedly been living in Byron Bay while work moves ahead on his dream property in the Tweed Valley, about an hour inland from Byron Bay. The home sits on a 128-hectare block of rainforest land that Efron bought in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. The project, named Futurecave, is designed as an off-grid, zero-waste residence built close to nature.

Zac Efron’s Australia home project

Page Six reports Efron has hired Australian environmental designer Joost Bakker to lead the project. Bakker had confirmed last month that planning had been approved, but the latest report said Efron stayed in Australia during construction and kept a low profile.Bakker shared his excitement on Instagram, writing, “Excited to get started on Zac’s house!” He also told Domain earlier, “It’s not every day of the week that @zacefron asks you to design his home; I am beyond excited!”The property is expected to include 830 square meters of living space spread across connected pods. Plans include a gym, outdoor walkways, and rooftops covered with plant life. The home will use hemp blocks in place of concrete and other natural materials. Bakker said the design aims to support local habitats, including endangered insects.

Bakker described Efron’s brief as clear. “He really wants it to be the healthiest home on the planet,” he said.People reported that the home will be made almost entirely out of hemp, including internal bricks, mattresses, curtains, and pillows. The outlet also reported that the hemp will come from a local farm, while kitchen and bathroom fixtures will use sustainable boards from Plantbord.Efron has long shown interest in Australia. He spent time there while filming his Netflix series ‘Down to Earth with Zac Efron: Down Under.’ Reports also said he listed his Los Angeles mansion for sale, adding to speculation that he plans to spend more time in Australia. The actor is also attached to a new HBO and A24 project based on the story behind the 1987 film ‘Angel Heart.’ In the series, he is expected to play a New York paparazzo pulled into a strange missing-person case.
