Where is Jasmine Dhunna? Deepak Ramsay breaks silence on mystery

Where is Jasmine Dhunna? Deepak Ramsay opens up on the mystery behind Veerana star’s disappearance: ‘She stopped taking calls’

Nearly four decades after Veerana turned her into one of Bollywood’s most unforgettable cult figures, actress Jasmine Dhunna continues to remain one of the industry’s biggest mysteries. Now, filmmaker Deepak Ramsay has opened up about the actress’ sudden disappearance, revealing that even the Ramsay family no longer knows where she is.Jasmine became an overnight sensation after starring in the 1988 horror classic Veerana, where her portrayal of a beautiful yet terrifying spirit captivated audiences. Despite the film’s massive success, she never appeared in another movie and vanished from public life, sparking decades of speculation about her whereabouts.

‘People were crazy about her’

Speaking to Hindi Rush, Deepak Ramsay recalled the frenzy Jasmine created after Veerana released.“Jasmine was very young. In fact, before Veerana, she had done one or two films, including one with Vinod Khanna, but she did not make a mark in those projects,” he said.According to Ramsay, everything changed after Veerana.“When Veerana released, it created havoc. People were crazy about her. She was extraordinarily beautiful and the character itself became iconic. Every night she would go out hunting for a new victim, and audiences were fascinated by her.”He described Jasmine as “a lethal combination of innocence and beauty,” adding that her transformation from a stunning woman into a terrifying witch became one of the film’s biggest talking points.

Producers kept asking for her number

Ramsay revealed that Jasmine’s popularity exploded so rapidly that filmmakers constantly approached the Ramsays hoping to cast her.“She created an enigma. People kept asking, ‘Who is this actress?’ Many producers called us and requested her contact details because they wanted to sign her for films.”However, despite becoming one of the most talked-about faces of the late 1980s, Jasmine chose not to continue in the industry.“Suddenly, knowingly or unknowingly, she decided she didn’t want to work anymore. She stopped taking calls and never did another film after that.”

‘Even today, we don’t know where she is’

Over the years, countless theories have emerged about Jasmine’s disappearance, ranging from claims that she moved abroad to rumours linking her exit to alleged underworld attention. None of those claims have ever been officially verified. When asked whether he knows where Jasmine is today, Ramsay admitted he has no idea.“That is a very good question. Honestly, I don’t know.”He explained that Jasmine remained in touch with the Ramsay family for some time after Veerana, but eventually all communication stopped.“Initially, she told Tulsi Ramsay and Shyam Ramsay that she wasn’t interested in doing more films and requested that we not share her number with producers. We respected her wishes and never passed on her contact details.”“But slowly and steadily, she kind of disappeared,” he added.

Rumours about underworld attention

Ramsay also addressed long-standing rumours that certain underworld figures were allegedly trying to contact Jasmine because of her beauty.“I heard those rumours too. Whether they were real or not, I can’t say. But there were stories that some underworld-connected people were trying to get in touch with her.”He added that if such incidents did occur, they may have contributed to her decision to distance herself from the public eye.“Perhaps because of that she wanted to cut herself off and retreat into her own shell.”Earlier reports and industry speculation have repeatedly linked Jasmine’s disappearance to alleged unwanted attention from the underworld, though no concrete evidence has ever surfaced to confirm those claims.

The mystery that refuses to fade

Even after all these years, curiosity around Jasmine remains strong. Ramsay said fans still approach him asking the same questions.“People still ask me where she is, whether she has done any more films, whether they can meet her, get an autograph or simply talk to her.”The fascination surrounding the actress has only grown with time. Her abrupt exit after achieving overnight fame transformed her into a Bollywood mystery that continues to intrigue fans decades later. While reports over the years have claimed that Jasmine may have settled in the United States and chosen a private life away from the spotlight, no verified public appearance or official confirmation about her whereabouts has ever emerged. For now, the woman who became the face of one of Bollywood’s most iconic horror films remains exactly what audiences remember her as — an enigma.
