When Vinod Khanna had to step down for Big B but was paid equally

When Vinod Khanna had to step down as lead for Amitabh Bachchan but was paid same as main character, while Danny Denzongpa lost his role due to Big B's entry

Vinod Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan worked in a film titled ‘Khoon Pasina’, directed by Rakesh Kumar. However, Big B was never a part of the movie, and his entry into the project cost Danny Denzongpa his role in the film. The story of what exactly happened behind the scenes is full of twists and turns.

Here’s why Vinod Khanna stepped down as the lead because of Amitabh Bachchan

The film titled ‘Khoon Pasina’ was released in 1977, and Vinod Khanna was supposed to play the lead, with Danny Denzongpa in a supporting role. According to News18, after Prakash Mehra—a well-known producer at that time—heard about the project, he called up the director post midnight. After listening to the story, he assured the filmmaker that he would produce the movie. The producer had worked with Khanna in the past, yet he wanted Amitabh Bachchan to play the lead, with the former in a supporting role. However, the director was a bit skeptical about this massive change, as he was a close friend of Vinod Khanna. After two days of discussion, Kumar was in tears and explained the situation to the actor. He feared that this change would cost him his career. However, Vinod Khanna was quite generous and accepted the offer. But with him playing the supporting role, Danny Denzongpa had to lose his part in the movie. Nevertheless, it is worth noting that even after playing the second lead, Vinod Khanna was paid the same fee as Amitabh Bachchan.

The film went on to become a huge hit at the box office in that year. The movie also solidified Amitabh Bachchan’s status as the superstar of that era. Later, the film was remade in Tamil and Telugu. While the Telugu version, ‘Tiger’, featured Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, the Tamil one, ‘Siva’, starred Rajinikanth.
