When Sunny revealed he would love to make ‘a biopic’ on Dharmendra

When Sunny Deol revealed he would love to make 'a biopic' on Dharmendra: 'If only we can get a good writer and director...'

Veteran actor Dharmendra is an iconic and eminent figure in the Indian film industry. Thus, when someone speaks about making a biopic on him, it adds to the excitement levels of the fans, and when that someone turns out to be his own flesh and blood, it’s hard to explain the anticipation in words. Yes, you read that right! Dharmendra’s eldest son, Sunny Deol, in an old interview, had shared that he would love to make a biopic on his legendary father. His only condition is that he needs the right writer and director who can dedicate enough time to the project.

When Sunny opened up about a Dharmendra biopic

Back in 2018, during the promotions of ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana: Phir Se’, Sunny had spoken to reporters about the possibility of making a biopic on his father, Dharmendra. In an interview with IANS, Sunny revealed, “It is a good idea and would be nice to make a film on him (Dharmendra) if only we can get a good writer and director to make the film. It cannot be random. There should be a writer who would invest time in it. It is not going to be that easy because my father will be involved in it. Since everyone knows everything about him, it must be put out in a nice way. Research will not be a problem, because my father is there to share the story. ”

Who would play Dharmendra onscreen in the biopic?

During the same interaction, Sunny mentioned that he had never really thought about portraying his father in a biopic. He pointed out that while the resemblance is there, it’s not just in him; his son Karan Deol could also easily play the younger version of Dharmendra. However, Sunny stressed that such casting decisions would ultimately depend on how the story is written.

Sunny Deol’s next

Sunny Deol is back in action with ‘Border 2’, and the film’s first poster has taken the internet by storm. Unveiled on Independence Day, the poster shows the superstar in a fierce soldier avatar, holding a bazooka and ready for battle. The film, which also stars Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, Ahan Shetty, Medha Rana, Mona Singh, and Sonam Bajwa, is set to release on January 22, 2026.
