Ace filmmaker SS Rajamouli is currently taking a short break from shooting his upcoming mega film ‘Varanasi’ during his Europe tour. The screening of his films ‘RRR’ and ‘Eega’ was held at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France. Attending a masterclass, the director spoke about the upcoming Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra starrer.
SS Rajamouli shares ‘Varanasi’ will be a standalone film
During the interaction, as per a Hindustan Times report the director confirmed that ‘Varanasi’ will be a standalone film. Unlike ‘Baahubali’, it will not be made as a franchise. When asked if the film would have multiple parts, Rajamouli gave a simple reply. He said, “One film. Yes, one film.”
SS Rajamouli reveals what audiences can expect
The ‘Baahubali’ director also shared what kind of experience the film will offer. He said the movie will take audiences on a grand adventure with mythology, fantasy, and strong emotions.He said, “You are going to experience the cold and ice of Antarctica. The gods of Ramayana, the natural disasters and fantastic elements. That’s the experience you are going to have, but at the core of all this is the emotions of father and son. All this makes Varanasi for you.”
About ‘Varanasi’
‘Varanasi’ features Mahesh Babu in the role of Rudhra. Priyanka Chopra plays Mandakini while Prithviraj Sukumaran portrays Kumbha. The film also marks Priyanka Chopra’s return to Indian cinema after an eight-year break. Earlier, Rajamouli also revealed that Mahesh Babu will appear as Lord Rama in one of the film’s important sequences. Vijayendra Prasad also teased a 30-minute war sequence between Rama and Kumbhakarna.
‘Varanasi’ shoot status
Recently in a conversation with Variety, SS Rajamouli revealed that the team has completed a major portion of the shoot. They have also wrapped up big action sequences. “Hopefully, by September, maybe a little bit into October, we should be finishing shooting,” said Rajamouli.The film is announced to hit the big screens on April 7, 2027.
