‘We weren’t trying to imitate the original’: Huma Qureshi breaks silence on recreating Aishwarya Rai and Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘Ishq Kameena’ for ‘Baby Do Die Do’

Huma Qureshi is stepping into familiar territory with a fresh perspective as she recreates one of Bollywood’s most loved dance numbers. Ahead of the theatrical release of ‘Baby Do Die Do’, the makers dropped a revamped version of ‘Ishq Kameena’, giving the iconic song a contemporary makeover. While the original remains a fan favourite, the team insists this version is a tribute rather than a copy.

Huma Qureshi explains why the team avoided copying the original

The recreated track features Huma Qureshi alongside Rachit Singh, showcasing their energetic chemistry through stylish visuals, glamorous costumes, and high-voltage dance sequences. The original ‘Ishq Kameena’, from the 2002 film ‘Shakti: The Power’, featured Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, with vocals by Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik.Opening up about revisiting the beloved number, Huma shared with Mid-Day, “When this song came to us, we were just so excited to bring it back. Ishq Kameena is massive, almost everyone has danced to it at some point, and that comes with a huge responsibility. We were nervous, genuinely nervous. But we weren’t trying to imitate the original. We wanted to bring our own flavour while celebrating everything that made it iconic. ”

Rachit Singh calls the recreated track a dream opportunity

For Rachit Singh, the song marks a significant milestone in his career as his first commercial Hindi promotional track. Reflecting on the experience, he expressed gratitude for sharing the screen with Huma and admitted that the opportunity still feels surreal. He said, “Every day I have to pinch myself that this is happening. Big shoes to fill in, fingers crossed. But I’m so happy I got to do this with Huma. The energy between us just felt natural; it never felt like work. I think that comes through on screen.”Adding another layer of excitement, the recreated version was choreographed by celebrated filmmaker and choreographer Remo D’Souza, whose signature style gives the classic song a modern visual identity while preserving its lively spirit.

Inside the world of ‘Baby Do Die Do’

Directed by Nachiket Samant and produced by Saqib Saleem under the Saleem Siblings banner in association with Pune 04 Film, ‘Baby Do Die Do’ is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on July 3. Set against the dark and dangerous backdrop of the underworld, the film promises an intense story driven by revenge, betrayal, and hidden secrets.Apart from Huma Qureshi and Rachit Singh, the thriller also stars Sikandar Kher, Chunky Panday, Marudha Shekhawat, Vidya Malvade, Arun Kushwah, Himanshu Malik, and several others in pivotal roles. The recently released trailer hints at a gritty crime drama packed with suspense and high-stakes action. Go to Source
