‘13 Reasons Why’ star Tommy Dorfman slams fellow passenger for transphobic comments

Recently, the actress took to her social media account in order to call out a fellow passenger, an old man who was on the same flight as her. Talking about the situation while also posting a series of photos on her account, Dorfman revealed that she found that the passenger had been sending transphobic messages about her to someone on his phone. She revealed what the man wrote in his text messages, which read, “I am in the first aisle of first class. Guess what is sitting next to me? A f—ing transsexual in the midst of going from a man to a woman. Just my luck. I was hoping for a hot babe!!”Another text from the man allegedly read, “Two and a half hours of sitting next to this freak!!” The actress posted photos of the messages on his phone, which were taken from a distance, and expressed her disdain over the matter. The star came out as a transgender woman back in 2021, and ever since then has been advocating for transgender rights and has been quite vocal about the issues that the community faces on day to day basis. She further wrote in her post that, “The audacity of this man so blatantly blasting off texts about me (sparing you the deeply misogynistic and revolting comments on our flight attendants in contrast to my freak) only reaffirms the choices I’ve made for myself to feel safe and comfortable in my body and spirit.”

Tommy Dorfman says that such opinions come at the cost of safety

Further on in her post she added that “This does come at the cost of safety and comfort in the world, especially in America, and that’s not without consequence internally and externally. I am lucky to have the life I have, the ability to fly freely (for now), and even post s— like this.”She also commented on how although she knows that she does not ‘look’ feminine, she puts in effort on her body and appearance for her own comfort, not for other people. “It’s always been about alignment and autonomy for my own comfort, not the comfort of others or the expectations of society,” she shared. The posts garnered a lot of reaction with many people extending their support for the actress.
