'Minions and Monsters' dethrones 'Toy Story 5'; tops Fourth of July holiday box office with USD 160 million global haul

The Minions have taken down ‘Toy Story 5′ at the July Fourth weekend box office.’Minions & Monsters’, the seventh film in the ‘Despicable Me’ franchise, earned USD 36.4 million at the holiday weekend box office, according to studio estimates for North America. The Minions movie, which has the devious henchlings seeking movie glory in Hollywood’s Golden Age, opened on Wednesday and earned an estimated USD 61.4 million in its first five days, according to studio estimates.

‘Minions & Monsters’ overseas collections

The Minions are a popular franchise globally and ‘Minions & Monsters’ has earned USD 160 million worldwide in its debut week. As per reports, the film raked in a major portion of its overseas collections from China (USD 16.3 million), Germany (USD 6.4 million) and the United Kingdom and Ireland (USD 5.8 million). The film was produced on an USD 85 million budget.

‘Toy Story 5’ box office collection

‘Toy Story 5,’ a juggernaut that last week beat ‘Supergirl’, earned an estimated USD 31 million.The film added USD 69.3 million from 50 international markets during its third weekend of release and pushing its worldwide box office haul to USD 764 million.

‘Toy Story 5’ inernational box office collections

The animated blockbuster made a strong debut in Japan, where it opened to USD 14.6 million, marking the biggest opening weekend for a Hollywood film in the country this year. Among its top-performing overseas markets, Mexico emerged as one of the biggest contributors with a USD 59.3 million, followed by the United Kingdom with USD 50 million and China, where it has grossed USD 37 million.

‘Toy Story 5’ to create new box office record

Overall, ‘Toy Story 5’ has now collected USD 398 million internationally, with the film well on track to surpass the lifetime global earnings of ‘Toy Story 4’, which finished its theatrical run with USD 1.07 billion worldwide.

‘Young Washington’ box office collection

Audiences looking for patriotic fare amid the United States’ 250th birthday celebration had ‘Young Washington’ to consider; it opened in third place with nearly USD 21 million. The movie focuses on George Washington’s service during the French and Indian War.That left ‘Supergirl’ in fourth with just under USD 10 million at the box office, a steep 74% drop from its disappointing opening weekend.The weekend box office was down year-over-year about 24%, according to figures compiled by Rentrak, though this summer is up from 2025 by nearly 12%. That’s due in part thanks to the low-budget Gen-Z sensations ‘Obsession’ and ‘Backrooms’, which took the sixth and seventh spots, behind Steven Spielberg’s ‘Disclosure Day’.
