Dharmendra passed away on Monday at the age of 89 at his Juhu residence, leaving behind a legacy that feels larger than life. His connection began early, through Hema Malini, who was introduced to the industry by Raj Kapoor. Collaborating with showman Raj Kapoor

Dharmendra first shared the screen with the legendary Raj Kapoor in the ambitious 1970 film ‘Mera Naam Joker’. The film struggled at release but later became an iconic work. Acting alongside Raj Kapoor placed Dharmendra among cinema’s most respected performers. It also marked the beginning of a long professional association with the Kapoor legacy.

He then built a strong on-screen rapport with Shashi Kapoor. Their pairing brought together two different energies, Shashi’s polished charm and Dharmendra’s heroic presence. They appeared in four films, including ‘Krodhi’ and ‘Jani Dost’.

Work with Shammi Kapoor

Shammi Kapoor became Dharmendra’s most frequent Kapoor co-star. Their bond translated into nine films across genres. By then, Shammi often took on character roles, while Dharmendra led the action and drama. Films like ‘Shalimar’ and ‘Tehelka’ showcased their contrasting screen personas, yet their chemistry remained effortless.

Sharing screens with Rishi Kapoor and Randhir Kapoor

Dharmendra smoothly transitioned into the next generation. With Rishi Kapoor, he completed three films, including ‘Katilon Ke Kaatil’, ‘Tell Me O Kkhuda’ and ‘Sher Dil’. He also delivered memorable hits with Randhir Kapoor. Their 1977 entertainer ‘Chacha Bhatja’ became a major success.

Working with Babita and completing the lineage with Karisma Kapoor

His Kapoor collaborations extended beyond the men. Dharmendra acted with Babita in the thriller ‘Kab Kyun Aur Kahan’, adding another link to the family. The circle completed when he worked with Karisma Kapoor in ‘Maidan-E-Jung’ (1995).
