SS Rajamouli’s ‘Varanasi’ eyeing Spanish release?

SS Rajamouli's 'Varanasi' starring Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra eyeing Spanish release post CCXP Mexico debut?

SS Rajamouli’s ambitious film ‘Varanasi’ appears to be positioning itself for a broader international rollout. The film starring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran in lead roles has been confirmed for a pan-India release, but following its debut at CCXP Mexico 2026, rumours are rife that the makers may just be planning a wide global rollout.

‘Varanasi’ to release in Spanish?

Various online reports indicate that a Spanish-language version of the film may just be in the works. While there has been no official confirmation on the same, the move seems to suggest that the makers are looking beyond the domestic markets to tap into Spanish-speaking regions. If the rumours are true, then this will be yet another Indian film set to release in Spanish. Besides ‘Varanasi’, the 2026 cinematic adaptation of ‘Ramayana’, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash, is also reportedly gearing up for a huge global release. The film is touted to feature extensive, AI-driven lip-synced dubbed versions in over 45 languages, including English, Japanese, Mandarin, and Spanish. While the film’s dialogues will reportedly be translated, the shlokas are said to remain in their original languages.

‘Varansai’ videos showcased at CCXP Mexico

The film was recently showcased at CCXP Mexico, where producer SS Karthikeya presented videos to the audience. While initially believed to be unveiling new footage, it was later revealed that the team screened three separate videos to introduce the project and its scale. As posted on social media, one video reportedly explored the historical and cultural significance of Varanasi, drawing parallels with ancient civilisations, including the Mayans and Aztecs. It also featured behind-the-scenes glimpses. The second video reportedly focused on the film’s teaser launch event held at Ramoji Film City. The event held last year, was unveiled to an audience of approximately 50,000 attendees. The third video included a message from Rajamouli along with the teaser, which has previously been released online under the title ‘The World of Varanasi’. The footage was reportedly screened at the convention in a theatrical format.

Mahesh Babu spotted in Amsterdam

Meanwhile, filming in on in full swing. Leading man Mahesh Babu was spoted in Amsterdam posing with a fan for a photo. He reportedly underwent fitness training for upcoming schedule of ‘Varanasi’. As per reports, after wrapping up a dance schedule with Priyanka, the film’s team is now gearing up to head to Antarctica to film on the Ross Ice Shelf. The film is slated for a 2027 relase.
