Indian-origin techie returns to India after failing to land job in US

After months of searching and several demanding interview processes, an Indian-origin tech professional in the United States says he has accepted that it is time to return home.In a Reddit post titled ‘End of the road’, coming back from US, the senior tech worker, who says he has more than 15 years of experience, shared that repeated attempts to secure a senior management role in US had come to a dead end. They wrote: “Finally made peace with coming back to India. Tried my best to get an offer. Went through 3 full loops ( 6 rounds each) but did not convert.”The user said the unsuccessful interview processes had convinced him to move back to India, even though he expects the job market to be equally challenging. They added: “Finding Senior Manager in tech jobs is tough, made peace. Experience – 15+ years.”The user said that he was preparing for a fresh start in the Delhi NCR region, while acknowledging the competition for senior technology roles.”I am assuming the job market to be worse off in Delhi NCR and just hope to land something soon.”Despite the setback, the Reddit user said he has planned his return carefully. He revealed that he intends to pay off his apartment in Gurgaon, giving himself a financial cushion while looking for a new role. “Only peace is – will pay off the apartment I have in Gurgaon – and will have 2-4 years of runway to get settled.”

The post stated a discussion on Reddit, with many users focusing on the realities of relocating after working abroad. Several commenters stressed the importance of maintaining emergency savings, managing tax obligations in both countries, planning retirement finances and ensuring healthcare coverage during the transition. Others suggested to expand the job search by considering positions below senior management level to improve the chances of finding work in India’s current hiring market. Some Reddit users also shared stories of professionals who had returned to India after facing career setbacks overseas and later rebuilt successful careers. At the same time, others cautioned that hiring conditions for senior technology roles remain difficult, making flexibility and financial planning increasingly important. Moreover, under the Trump administration, it is becoming increasingly difficult for H-1B workers to apply for and obtain a Green Card in the US, leaving many with an uncertain future. As a result, numerous tech professionals are choosing to return to India, viewing it as a much safer option.
