Sai Abhyankkar clarifies replacing AR Rahman in ‘Karuppu’

Sai Abhyankkar clarifies replacing AR Rahman in 'Karuppu'; says 'He was absolutely fine with it'

Young composer Sai Abhyankkar has finally addressed the much-talked-about change in the music department of Karuppu, which stars Suriya. The film, directed by RJ Balaji, was initially set to have music by A. R. Rahman. However, Sai Abhyankkar stepped in later, leading to curiosity among fans. Speaking about it, he clarified that he was unaware of Rahman’s earlier involvement when he first got the offer. The sudden call to work on a big film like ‘Karuppu’ came as a surprise, and he admitted that he had many questions at that moment.

Sai Abhyankkar about AR Rahman’s consent

In a chat with The Hollywood Reporter India, Sai Abhyankkar revealed that he personally spoke to A. R. Rahman before taking up the project. Sharing his experience, he said, “I didn’t know about it actually… I spoke to Rahman sir regarding that… He was absolutely fine with it.” He further added that when he saw the film’s early poster carrying Rahman’s name, he was confused and tried to understand what had happened. “I asked why… what happened… but I didn’t get a clear answer,” he said. Despite the confusion, Sai chose to move forward with respect and responsibility once the team confirmed their decision.

The composer explained that once the makers and Suriya trusted him with the project, he felt it was his duty to deliver. “If the production, Suriya sir and Balaji sir want me to do it, then it’s my duty to do it,” he said. ‘Karuppu’ is expected to be a rural action entertainer, with Suriya playing a powerful role. The teaser already hints at a strong mass character, adding to expectations. Participating in such a large film is an enormous challenge for Sai Abhyankkar and an important advancement in his career.

The film ‘Karuppu’ is scheduled for release on May 14 and features a strong cast including Trisha, Yogi Babu, and others. With Sai’s fresh music and the film’s strong buzz, fans are eager to see how this collaboration turns out on the big screen. Go to Source
