RJ Balaji reveals Vijay’s connection with ‘Karuppu’; shares an UNTOLD story from the first script narration

Director and actor RJ Balaji has revealed an interesting secret behind the origin of ‘Karuppu’. The film, starring Suriya, has emerged as a massive theatrical success and crossed Rs 200 crore at the box office. As part of the celebrations, RJ Balaji has been visiting theatres and meeting fans across Tamil Nadu. During his recent visit to Erode, he watched the film with fans and celebrated by cutting a cake inside the theatre premises. Speaking to reporters there, he surprised many by revealing that the story of ‘Karuppu’ was initially narrated to Vijay.Vijay was the first actor to hear the ‘Karuppu’ storyAs reported by News 18, RJ Balaji shared that he began writing the story of ‘Karuppu’ in August 2023 and Vijay was the first actor to hear the script. Recalling the moment, he said, “When I narrated the story to Vijay sir, he appreciated it a lot and immediately asked, ‘Can we do this film right away?’” However, RJ Balaji explained that he needed more time to shape the screenplay properly. “I told him I still needed time to develop the script,” he added. Before the project could move ahead, Vijay became deeply involved in his political journey, which changed the direction of the film’s casting plans. Vijay’s discussions helped the story evolveEven though the project did not materialise with Vijay, RJ Balaji said the actor’s feedback and conversations helped improve the story. “The discussions I had with Vijay sir helped the script grow and change in many ways,” he explained. Later, the script was narrated to Suriya, who was impressed with the concept and came on board for the project. RJ Balaji said that journey eventually led to the making of ‘Karuppu’, which has now turned into one of the biggest hits of the year. He also mentioned that he enjoys making films connected to spiritual and divine themes whenever he finds a powerful idea.RJ Balaji shares his hope about Vijay’s political journeyRJ Balaji also spoke positively about Vijay’s political entry and the expectations people have from him. “People are hopeful after Vijay became Chief Minister, and I too share that hope,” he said. He further added that he wishes to see growth and progress in every sector under Vijay’s leadership. His comments quickly grabbed attention among fans, especially after he revealed the unexpected link between Vijay and ‘Karuppu’.
