Ilhan Omar under fire as husband’s income drops from millions to $200 in new disclosure

Ilhan Omar under fire as husband’s income drops from millions to $200 in new disclosure: Report

Ilhan Omar now claims erstwhile-millionaire hubby made as little as $200 last year

Ilhan Omar is facing backlash over her household finances after fresh disclosure forms suggested a sharp drop in her husband’s earnings, with documents indicating he made as little as a few hundred dollars last year, reports the New York Post.According to reporting based on Omar’s 2025 financial disclosure, her husband Tim Mynett is listed as receiving no salary from his investment firm Rose Lake Capital during the period in question. The filing states that the only income tied to him came from a California wine business, eStCru, which earned between $200 and $1,000 before shutting down earlier this year. That marks a huge change from the previous year, when disclosures suggested the couple’s business interests could be worth between $5 million and $30 million. Those figures triggered a row about how the valuation had been calculated. An amended filing was later submitted, revising the value of those holdings to zero. The adjustment was attributed to an accounting mistake.Even with the revised figures, Rose Lake Capital is still shown as generating between $100,000 and $1 million in revenue during the same period, alongside the now-closed wine business which brought in a few thousand dollars before ceasing operations. The latest 2025 disclosure also places the couple’s total assets at between $20,000 and $125,000, with liabilities including credit card and student loan debt estimated between $30,000 and $100,000. That would put their net position at a negative figure. The changes have prompted renewed criticism from political opponents, particularly given earlier filings that showed a sudden rise in estimated wealth. In 2024, the couple had business values that appeared to jump into the multimillion-dollar range before later being revised down.A spokesperson for Omar told TMZ: “The amended disclosure confirms what we’ve said all along: the Congresswoman is not a millionaire. The original filing was based on incomplete information from Mr. Mynett’s businesses’ accountants in good faith and deference to professional judgement.””The rep continues … “It listed assets without liabilities, and it significantly overstated her husband’s net worth. The accounting error created a misleading picture of far greater wealth. The Congresswoman amended her disclosures voluntarily as soon as the discrepancy was identified. The amended disclosure is now complete and accurate.””The controversy comes amid political scrutiny and follows a period in which Omar’s financial filings drew attention during separate concerns involving fraud investigations linked to social services programmes in Minnesota.Mynett has worked in Democratic political circles for nearly two decades and co-founded Rose Lake Capital in 2022 with longtime associate Will Hailer. He previously worked alongside Hailer in 2012 during efforts connected to Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison’s congressional re-election campaign.Ellison later gave up his House seat in 2018, a move that paved the way for Omar’s election, with Hailer previously saying he played a role in the transition. In earlier reporting, Mynett’s wine venture eStCru sold bottles including “The Devil’s Lie” before closing down this year.Responding to the disclosures, Republican National Committee spokeswoman Delanie Bomar said:“Voters see right through the corrupt lies of Ilhan Omar,” Republican National Committee spokeswoman Delanie Bomar told The New York Post. “Omar has spent her entire career covering up Democrat-enabled fraud that cost taxpayers billions, so it’s no surprise that she would do the same for her husband.”
