Ranbir Kapoor once questioned Deepika Padukone’s decision to star in ‘Cocktail,’ a film written by Imtiaz Ali. He admitted he didn’t understand her choice, especially with other offers from acclaimed directors on the table. Kapoor later acknowledged Padukone’s instinct was right, praising her performance even though he wasn’t a fan of the film itself.
Ranbir Kapoor has always been very candid about his career, his ups and downs and his decisions. There was a time when he was wondering what made Deepika Padukone do Cocktail- a film that went on to cement her position as one of the most sought after actresses in the business. In a clip from the NDTV interview during the promotions of Tamasha is now doing rounds, Ranbir Kapoor was asked if he was against Deepika doing Cocktail. Replying to it he said, “ What happened is, the director of Cocktail, Homi Adajania, who is a wonderful director and a dear friend, had made a particular kind of film ( Being Cyrus) . I didn’t know what the Cocktail script was, I just knew that Imtiaz Ali had written it. So when Deepika was about to do the film, she also had a lot of good offers at that time. But she chose Cocktail,” Ranbir recalled.
Ranbir went on to reveal that he had even asked Deepika why she was doing the film when she had so many opportunities with acclaimed filmmakers. “She saw something special in Cocktail that probably I didn’t see. So I asked her, I said, why are you doing this film? You have so many good directors waiting to work with you. Why don’t you do their film? But I think that was solely her choice. And it was her instinct which was greater than mine,” he explained.Ranbir later acknowledged that that her liked in the film but he’s wasnt of the film. He said “To be honest, I’m not a big fan of the film. I’m a big fan of what she did in the film.” Cocktail 2 is currently being shot in Italy and no, Deepika Padukone is not part of the sequel. The sequel features Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna.
