Raanjhan row: Sachet-Parampara plan defamation case

Raanjhan plagiarism row: Sachet-Parampara hit back at allegations, plan defamation case against KMKZ

Kriti Sanon’s Do Patti gave Bollywood one of its biggest romantic hits in 2024 with the song Raanjhan also featuring Shaheer Sheikh. The track quickly dominated playlists, but the mood changed this week when international producer KMKZ accused T-Series and composers Sachet-Parampara of plagiarism. He alleged that the popular number had been built on a beat he had uploaded online two years ago.

“False allegations aimed at popularity”

The music duo, however, have flatly denied any wrongdoing. Parampara Thakur clarified in an interview that the claims were nothing but an attempt to ride on the success of the track. She said their team had already provided YouTube, Spotify and other platforms with original project files and piano scores, which confirmed the song’s authenticity.Parampara further pointed out that the F sharp major scale progression cited in the dispute is common and can be used by any composer. According to her, KMKZ’s request to take down Raanjhan had already been rejected once streaming platforms reviewed the evidence.

Legal battle ahead

Taking a tougher stance, Sachet-Parampara are now preparing to move court. The duo’s lawyers, Parampara revealed, are initiating a defamation case against KMKZ for what they call an attack on their reputation and credibility. “We will not allow anyone to tarnish our goodwill with misleading claims,” she said firmly in an interview with Mid-day.

KMKZ says he was ignored by T-Series

KMKZ, meanwhile, narrated a different version of events in a series of Instagram videos. He said that he had been alerted by a listener who recognised his piano loop in Raanjhan. The producer alleged that despite multiple attempts to contact T-Series and the composers via email, he got no response.According to him, “They just ripped the beat off YouTube and didn’t credit me or pay me,” adding that the song has now crossed 290 million streams on Spotify without his name attached.
