<p> <span title= Filmmaker R. Parthiban has apologized for a caste-related remark made at the ‘Ustaad Bhagat Singh’ event, explaining he felt tense and struggled with Telugu. He clarified that while his origins are different, his life and career are tied to Tamil Nadu, and he regrets any hurt caused by his attempt to connect with the Telugu audience.

Celebrated filmmaker and actor R. Parthiban issued a late-night audio clarification and apology following a wave of criticism regarding a caste-related remark made during a high-profile film event. Known for his poetic and often abstract speeches, the National Award winner found himself at the center of a social media storm after introducing himself using his caste identity at the pre-release event for the Telugu film ‘Ustaad Bhagat Singh’ in Hyderabad.

‘Ustaad Bhagat Singh’ event speech sparks caste remark controversy

During the promotional event for the Pawan Kalyan starrer on March 15, 2026, Parthiban attempted to bridge the gap with the Telugu audience by discussing his heritage. Addressing the massive crowd, Parthiban introduced himself as a “Naidu boy,” referencing his ancestral roots. Even though it was meant to be an ice-breaker, the comment met with immediate pushback online. Critics argued that a creator of his stature, who often speaks about progressive and humanitarian values, should have avoided invoking caste identity. The actor was already under scrutiny for a recent unintentional remark about actress Trisha Krishnan, calling her “Kundavai who should sit at home,” which caused this second controversy to escalate quickly.

Parthiban clarifies caste identity remark and issues apology

Seeking to put the issue to rest, Parthiban released a nearly four-minute audio byte at 1:00 AM on March 17. He explained, “However attached I may be to Tamil, I cannot change my birth certificate. My birth is not my responsibility. No child chooses the parents or home they are born into.”

Inside Kollywood’s 2025 Crisis and Uncertain Future

In a humble tone, he stated he is not an egoistic person and offered a heartfelt apology to anyone hurt by his words. Parthiban revealed that he felt extremely “tense” on stage because he is not fluent in Telugu. He admitted his attempt to connect through a few shared cultural words stumbled due to anxiety.Parthiban further stated that although his origins may be different, he is a Tamil man whose life is tied to Tamil. He said that Tamil has given him everything: his work, his respect, his life and it is dear to him. He added that he was afraid to speak at the event because he does not know how to speak Telugu and felt nervous on stage. Closing his remarks, Parthiban requested everyone to stop discussing the matter negatively and learn to move on.

R. Parthiban on the work front

Parthiban was last seen in Dhanush’s ‘Idli Kadai’ and he is set to make his on-screen comeback with Pawan Kalyan’s ‘Ustaad Bhagat Singh’, which is set for March 19 release. Go to Source
