Priyanka Chopra on her debut Hollywood production 'The Bluff': 'To me, this is a much needed, fun pirate movie'

Actor and producer Priyanka Chopra marked a major career milestone as she hit the red carpet for the premiere of her debut Hollywood production, ‘The Bluff’. Calling the project both deeply personal and creatively fulfilling, the actress brought her fashion A-game to the red carpet as she rocked a look that incorporated her character’s armour into the dramatic gown.

Sharing glimpses from the red carpet, Chopra reflected on how far she has come in her journey. She wrote, “My first U.S. premiere was at the TCL Chinese Theatre. And it did NOT feel like this one. Being here with The Bluff, the first film I’ve produced and led in the US, feels poignant.”

The actor also offered a detailed look at the inspiration behind her ensemble. She explained in the post, “Tonight’s look is deeply personal. The body of this dress, the cuirass (Armour), is the original Hero piece from Bloody Mary’s costume in the movie, designed by our brilliant costume designer Antoinette Messam, in collaboration with Australian artisans who hand made this over three months. As soon as I put it on while filming two years ago, I wondered how I could wear it for the premiere. There was so much thought, artistry and craft that went behind customizing this piece to my body, and the incredible human talent that worked on the details, that I felt it needed a moment of their own.” Revealing how the final look came together, she said, “So with the Cuirass as the central focus, I worked with my very talented styling team of Wayman and Micah. We reached out to the designers of Who Decides War, known for their edgy and creative designs, and whose Caribbean heritage brought an added layer of representation to the dress.”

Speaking about the action-adventure film that releases online next week, Chopra added, “To me, this movie is a much needed, fun pirate movie, but it’s set against the themes of colonialism and history, so it cut a little deep for me. In the story, this armor marks the moment my character transforms from the Prey to the Predator. Hunted to Hunter. The skeleton mermaid motif draws from ancient maritime folklore about sirens that were apparently spotted in the sea, who were both beautiful and deadly. This becomes Bloody Mary’s symbol.”She concluded her post saying, “Promote a movie, but make it fashion.”
